40-Day Prayer Journey

Pastor Dan will be leading a book study, "Unbinding the Gospel," along with the prayer journey to help participants reflect on their relationship with God and the importance of talking about their faith with each other.  If you are interested in participating in the study, contact Pastor Dan (423-3135).  The study will start in the middle of February, meet once weekly, and continue for 8 weeks.  It is a big commitment but you will find the experience to be very valuable and rewarding.

Birthday Party at Skaalen

Grace Lutheran is church of the month for February.  There is a calendar on the kiosk listing all the events you can volunteer for at Skaalen.  Also, there is a list of birthdays you can sign up for including three men and nine ladies.

Words that Comfort

How can we show each other we care? What do we say when someone is diagnosed with a life-limiting illness? How can we provide comfort when a person’s family member or friend has died? Cindy Ragland, MSW, has graciously offered to come to Grace February 26th to help us learn to feel more comfortable during these difficult times. Cindy, who has a Masters degree in Social Work, is a Grief Counselor with Agrace Hospice in Madison, teaches in the UW-Madison School of Social Work, and has 30 years of related experience. Please come for this hour to honor Cindy’s gift of time to us and to increase your comfort level with this topic. We will be meeting in the nursery following our church service. Brought to you by your Health Ministry Team.

Lent Begins February 22

Lent begins this year with Ash Wednesday on February 22. Our Ash Wednesday worship will begin at 7:00 p.m. This service marks the beginning of Lent, a period of self reflection and preparation for the great Easter promise of resurrection. We will again be offering the mark of ashes as a sign of repentance and new life.
For the rest of the Wednesday’s of Lent our services will begin at 6:15 p.m. A soup supper will be served starting at 5:30 p.m.
Join us as we journey together through this season of Lent!

Soup Supper Help

We will again be serving a soup supper before our Lenten services. We are looking for families or groups in our congregation to prepare and serve the suppers. Each supper would require 3-4 families to prepare soup and bread for approximately 50-60 people. The women’s circles are providing desserts. Confirmation students will also be helping with serving and clean up. There is a signup sheet located on the table by the pastor’s office. You can sign up as a group or as an individual. The first supper will be February 29. The suppers have been a wonderful fellowship opportunity for our congregation!

Internship Program Fund

At our Annual Meeting we voted to proceed with the Internship program this coming year. The cost of this program will be mainly funded through the giving of our members. The total cost of the program will be approximately $15,000. This means we will need an additional $7,500 in income over the next two years.

If you would like to help support this program, you may do so by using our regular offering envelopes and marking them “Internship Program Fund.” Through this program we participate in preparing candidates for ordained ministry in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

We will also need to form an Internship committee that will help support the Intern over the course of the year. If you are interested in being a part of this committee, contact Pastor Dan for more information.
